The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University is responsible for teaching in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and education, directly reporting to the Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs. During the period when it was still Chiang Mai Teachers' College, the faculty organized the academic administration into subject divisions, such as the English subject division, the Social Studies subject division, and the Arts subject division. The department heads were administrators and directly reported to the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs. They were responsible for teaching at the Diploma of Education (P.K.S.), Higher Diploma of Education (P.K.S. Higher), and Primary Teacher's Certificate (P.P.) levels since 1955.
In 1975, the Teachers' College Act of 1975 was promulgated, causing the administration of all teacher colleges to be under the Teachers' Training Council.
In 1976, the Teachers' Training Institute's teacher training curriculum was announced. In the same year, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offered a bachelor's degree program in Thai language, following the promulgation of the Teachers' College Act. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 1977 by combining the existing departments and named them as departments and programs.

In 1995, the Rajabhat Institute Act was promulgated, resulting in the name being changed from Chiang Mai Teachers College to Chiang Mai Rajabhat Institute, along with changes in the details of the faculty's administration, with the new name being: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has abolished departmental administration and replaced it with program administration, with the dean as the faculty administrator and the program chair as the program administrator. It consists of 16 programs and 4 groups of programs as follows: Community Development Program, Music Program, Performing Arts Program, Library Science and Information Science Program, Chinese Program, Japanese Program, Thai Program, English Program (B.Ed.), English Program (B.A.), Business English Program, Public Administration Program, Cultural Studies Program, Fine Arts Program, Fine Arts Program, Social Studies Program, Tourism Industry Program, French Language Group, Philosophy and Religion Group, History Group, Geography Group. Note: Programs are responsible for teaching major subjects and general foundation subjects, while groups are responsible for teaching general foundation subjects. In 1999, the faculty’s internal administration was adjusted again by reducing and increasing the number of programs to facilitate administration and to be in line with the newly developed curriculum administration.
In 2004, 2 graduate programs were opened: Master of Arts in Thai Language Master of Arts Program in English
In 2006, the program was established within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and was divided into 2 departments as follows:

In 2009, the university announced the establishment of a program in the department or faculty of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, causing the faculty to adjust the program within the faculty to comply with the announcement of the determination of programs within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences again and divided into 2 programs as follows:
